Earlier this year, I decided that this was the summer of interning. So I decided to try my luck in ad agencies, newspaper companies, magazine publications, you name it. Anyplace that were breeding grounds for potential media career paths.
There was no feedback for awhile, so I figured that nights with TimTams and Jack Bauer on TV would be one of the highlights of summer 2010 (apart from being home of course).
Fast forward please
Tomorrow, I'm going to help usher the 'Masterpiece' HighEnd event at the Hyatt Hotel. This is when Miss Indonesia 2010 (who is yet to be determined) will make her grand 'debut' to the public.
A night full of glitz, glamor and fine dining along with celebrities and other prominent figures in the city :)

I checked my email a couple of days ago and I found a message from Jakarta Globe. It was a late reply from the internship opportunity email I sent previously. It was Mr. Lin Neumann, the current chief editor of Jakarta Globe. After I replied that I'll go back to Manila soon and this was his message,
"OK. Try me next time and use my personal email *************
I am a huge fan of Ateneo (though not as much as UP Diliman ;-)) and I think you might be perfect for us after you graduate"
I can't tell you how much this made my day. I guess things happen when you least expect them :)
And this is Lin Neumann we're talking about, a veteran editor and correspondent who established a name for himself in Asia's journalism field. His previous working experience include being a consultant to the Committee to Protect Journalists, editor of the Standard newspaper (in Hong Kong) and co-founder of the independent news site Asia Sentinel.
Forgive me if I seem to be overly ambitious.
70% of this summer was probably spent thinking about what I can do post-grad. Even though I'm still not sure in which career path I want to pursue, all I can say is that I'm glad I picked Communication as my major. Whether it's in corporate marketing communications, public relations, accounts management in advertising or freelance writing, this is the niche I probably want to picture myself in 10 years from now.
This is where I want to be.
