5MR #5

I'd like to share something on Tumblr 2 minutes ago

She needs a new journal. The one she has is problematic. To get to the present, she needs to page through the past, and when she does, she remembers things, and her new journal entries become, for the most part, reactions to the days she regrets, wants to correct, rewrite.
Dave Eggers, How the Water Feels to the Fishes

All I can say is that this is fucking powerful. I won't even bother attempting to decipher this here, because it says it all.

5MR # 4 - Crammer's Delight

When the tensions are high and the list of to-dos just seems to quadruple itself, the best and seemingly only way to cope with it is characterized through one single verb - cramming.
Cramming - a significant period when one's short-memory skills are ultimately put to the test to absorb enormous amounts of information/catch up on errands to make up for lost time. Not necessarily limited to tests and quizzes. Often a product of procrastination. Sleep deprivation and a short temper might follow. A solution to this is to take a Stresstab and not let unnecessary distractions get the best of you.
I've been ranting a lot about my poor time management skills, but I have high hopes that this weekend will be different. I will test myself - this time, I will follow through with the schedule I made (yes, that's how I spend my Friday nights... for now).

Fingers crossed, please.

PS. Remember how I accepted my scatterbrained of a character ever so lovingly?
Well, scratch that.

5MR #3 - Sing Me to Sleep

Thank you sleep, that was all I needed.
The jog today didn't give me the runner's high I wanted.
Afterwards, instead of feeling the serotonin, I felt sort of bland - the feeling were you just wanted to push everything aside and not think about it anymore. Maybe it was the overwhelming sensation or the lack of self-esteem, but the feeling felt like my mind had shut down temporarily. A Stresstab pill, four slices of pizza and a kwento session later, nothing distracted me from this negativity.
This was the first time I felt de-motivated to do anything anymore - usually, I take everything with a hands-on drive but this time, I just felt blah.
I figured that nothing productive would come out of me if this kind of pessimism would continue, so I dived into the covers and slept like a disgruntled baby.
Now it's almost six in the morning and am trying make up for the lost time.
And now I'm back in the game.

Blast from the Past

Back in high school. I don't know why I chose to post this picture for this entry but I'm guessing the devil horns puts more emphasis some points for being a badass back then (whutt?)

I recently found my a stash of the mix CDs I made back in high school, when I actually had the TIME to explore music. Burning mix CDs was always a ritual back then, I had the habit of giving it as a 'complimentary personal touch' birthday gift to my closest friends. I also had those mix CDs that had the same theme of 'Songs to listen when..' theme, so whenever I was feeling moody/happy/indifferent/angry, I always had the right music CD to pop in the player.
The fact that Fireworks continues to be my number-one song for 'inspiration' doesn't help. It's not that I don't like Katy Perry (I do, for real!), it's just how my music inclinations has radically changed compared to the songs I listened back in high school.
With that being said, I'd like to share a few songs that has been a staple part of my high school life. These are the ones that provided me a temporary source of angsty-ridden enlightenment. Soon, I will update my music playlist on this genre but let's just enjoy these classics for the time-being.
2. Alkaline Trio - Wash Away (Yes, I like this better than the original one from TSOL and yes, it's from Tony Hawk's American Wasteland)

I love receiving mix CDs, since they will always encompass that personalized, 'I-only-bought-this-CD-for-15 bucks-but-I-had-the-time-to-select-and-rearrange-the-songs-for-the-perfect-soundtrack' vibe. So for my next birthday, I'd be perfectly content (just as long as it doesn't anything from Celine Dion or Simple Plan, since I have all of their songs already) with mix CDs. Preferably for the following situations:

1) Studying - Pretty please, someone give me tracks that won't make me fall asleep though. Not house or classical music though, these have already been tried and failed miserably.
2) Surfing the web - Give me something similar to the Social Network OST =)
3) When you're alone in Starbucks/Bo's/some other coffee chain where you love the ambiance but you're dead tired of hearing the same songs played all over again (including your Ipod)

5MR #2

It's been almost a week and this is the second time I posted my 5MR. Two words - major fail. Yet the scenario that comes up every day starts with a rant formulating in my head and as I start to unravel it here, I immediately realize how stupid and unnecessary it sounds. In the end, I choose to delete it and continue working.
Will need something like this!

If it wasn't for Theo, I would have probably been doing alright with academics. Let's say for now, bye-bye DL. My Theo prof told us that there are actually shirts with 'I SURVIVED (insert prof's surname here)'. I won't expound on anything right now, but let's just say that after seeing the comments in the proposal she sent back, I clearly understand why she's known as a terror prof. Nevertheless, her lectures are quite interesting and I know she's doing this to *ahem* bring out the magis in us. I just want to pass her class, and by that, not by a D or any letter after that would suffice.

Anyways, I find it easier to work in Kenny's with all the noise surrounding me rather than the dorm for some reason. Perhaps it's the fact that I'm completely immersed in my own thing - just like the countless of students, families, couples that come and go throughout the whole day. In fact, I'm spending my Saturday night completely glued in front of my laptop.

And I realize that this blog needs more pictures. Will post them soon!

That's all I have to say for today.

5MRs - The Beginning

In the following months, I propose a new kind of blog post here. It's called 5MR (short for 5-minute rants), where I'll allow myself to write about the stresses, musings and whatnot in five minutes. Since I'm not an avid user of Twitter and Tumblr is the place for everything pretty, I'll put it all in here.
Expect a lot of complaints, random trivia and maybe, just a couple of insights in future posts.

Just a Ride

I officially dedicate the first post of 2011 on the personal rants that have accumulated in my head  in the past 13 days. With the lack of a social life to comment on, the academics/org has officially taken over for now. And to think that right after the school year ends, OJT will take a huge chunk out of our summer. Definitely a swarm of busy bees we are!
Here's a rundown of the random musings in the first two weeks of the new year. 2011, if you're going to be like this throughout the whole year, bring it.

  1. I'd like to think that the holiday weight gain has already been lost after the 5k runs. I haven't checked the weighing scale since the fear of eradicating my runner's high has prevented me to do so. But the first run after two weeks of being inactive, it feels like my body and gravity was playing tug of war with each other. Yup, it's definitely hard getting back into shape for cardio. Those attempts on doing the exercise 'Stay Fit During the Holidays!' workouts you find in the magazines have done absolutely nothing.
  2. Dorm room still looks like a tornado had just swept through it, with crumpled clothes and random pieces of papers scattered everywhere. If you don't think it's that bad, I'll post pictures soon.
  3. Someone thought that it would be cool to leave a couple of apples inside our broken refrigerator over the holidays. And the combination of trapped moist air and organic food is definitely a breeding ground for all sorts of mold and fungi. Not only do we have a broken fridge that stinks of rotten apples, but with hundreds of disgusting specimen neighbors having the time of their lives. Again, will post pictures soon.
  4. Had an interview at a publishing company earlier this week, who wanted me to start the OJT as early this month. I eventually decided that it would be better to start on April with the busy schedule I'm having. Right after, I also had an interview with an ad agency that promised me a super exhilarating yet exciting OJT experience. Now I'm torn between two potential career paths :'(
  5. Haven't watched a single movie or TV series, updated my music playlist or opened a book that wasn't school related - which is totally depressing. After listening to the same music over and over again, it reminds me of a monotonous routine. Must solve this soon.
  6. KICK OFF - Huge success for our Events Management class! The rains didn't stop the teams from playing their hearts out. And get this, there's a huge possibility that it could be an annual thing =) That's leaving a legacy right there!
  7. The library is my second home for now. It's the sanctuary for some much-needed productivity and it's the place you'll most probably see me after my classes.
  8. I might jump on the bandwagon and move my blog to Wordpress. I tried making a blog there before, but I found the whole design layout process a bit tedious.

Thank you, Miguel Sanchez and my lovely parents for the supply good ol' coffee from Indonesia, which will probably last till June (an average of three cups per day).

2011, here we go!
