Don't You Forget about Molly

The 50s had Audrey Hepburn with her quintessential charm and LBD. Twiggy reigned in the 60s with her doe-like features. Farrah Fawcett was the official bombshell of the 70s, with every girl sporting her feathered hairstyle and adolescent males had her poster plastered on the bedroom walls.
Molly Ringwald will forever hold the title as the 80s teen queen.
Known as the ‘queen bee’ in the Brat Pack, she rose to fame in John Hughes’Sixteen Candles as Sam Baker, the unfortunate protagonist whose birthday is forgotten by her family. She continued to capture teen hearts everywhere with her roles in other John Hughes films such as Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink. While she may not be the most stunning, she does have an awkward appeal that many girls could relate to in their adolescent years.

I officially have this fascination with Molly Ringwald. There is something intriguing about her, and I have yet to find out exactly why.
As a 90s kid, sometimes I wonder whether I was born in the wrong decade but images of Little Lulu, Koosh balls and Tamaguchi, suddenly pop into my mind which makes me think twice.
When hell week is over, I will devote some time to post some entries on why 80s rule - unforgettable  fashion staples (perms and big-ass hair ribbons, anyone?), John Hughes, coming-of-age movies, the Brat Pack and everything else in between.

Rainy Day, Dream Away..

There's something about the rain that sparks (un)productivity. When the heavens start to open and the claps of thunderstorm generate a momentary lapse of fear, comfort comes in the form of being inside a four-wall structure.
Mother Nature calls the shots - this is her indirect way of telling me to take a much-needed rest amidst the mounting levels of schoolwork. As much as I desperately push myself to write a paper on Indian cinema and the Rashomon effect, all I yearn to do is dive into the bed covers, wrap myself with a blanket and have a Friends marathon/catch up on some blog reading/doze off with the Cure's Disintegration faintly playing in my earphones.

A couple more weeks of fighting such urges and you're good to go.

The Party's Crashing Us..

We going light it up, like's it dynamite
Organizing events is something that I always had an interest in. As a student chairperson back in high school, that's the first time when I got the feel for it. This semester, I took Sir Sev's PR class (his prerequisite for Events Management), where he talked about crisis management and proper event planning. That sparked a long forgotten interest plus double-staffing in the Externals as well.

Conceptualizing, determining what is actually feasible, budgeting, promoting - the whole agenda excites me. As you witness the event unfold at your very eyes, that's when the hard work pays off.

GAME OVER: ARSA'S IAC Ender Party was the first event I volunteered as a co-project head for a dorm event. Every year, ARSA has their own IAC (Inter-Athletics Competition) with its own divisions - aside from sports, there is  Mr. & Mrs. IAC, Athlete's Brain and Cheerdance. The IAC Ender party serves as the culminating event, where people can celebrate the successful season.

It was definitely an exhilarating experience. Stressing? Absolutely. Time-consuming? Very. There were  those times where random self-reminders pop up in the most inappropriate times aka the futile attempts for a productive study session. The worries that never ceases to disappear the moment you wake up and the lasting moments before you drift off to a 2-hour sleep. In the midst of it all, personal issues also came up, which was an eye-opener that exposed me to a whole lot of realizations (something that I won't expound on here).

The real question is - was it worth it? Definitely. Despite my black heels got ruined and an encounter with a freakishly old man, everything else ran rather smoothly. The trade-off of nights of possible studying, beauty sleep and chilling with friends was worth it. It was great to see people celebrating their hard work and effort put into this year's IAC season and forget about hell month (thanks to good company and alcohol) for just one night.

I remember jumping in bed right after we cleaned up the place (which was at around 5am). The feeling of accomplishment never felt so good =)

Now there's one thing I can scratch off my college bucket list. It was a success (despite the ventilation problem, which made the place feel like an ongoing sauna) and we made a huge profit!

Here are some of the photos that were taken during the night. I grabbed it from other people's Facebook albums (will credit it if there is no watermark, don't worry!)

Again, special thanks to our radio media sponsors who helped us get the exposure we needed, the drinks sponsors who provided us drinks to keep the party going and everyone else who made it possible (fellow ARSAns and those party goers who attended!) <3

Don't Call it a Comeback

Can I just say, that even though one of the year's biggest parties is currently ongoing this very moment, I am rather content with  spending a Saturday night in the dorm. Last year was different though - it felt like we were going to miss something spectacular.

Call it maturity or a shift in preferences, but the thought of waking up with aching feet and lethargic disposition is rather tiresome right now. Plus, I'm saving my energy for hell week and preparing the IAC cumulating event.

The question of whether it was a productive day or not remains disputed, but oh well. I spent a good chunk of it fixing the layout and pages of this blog, rather than starting on my ComRes assignments. I figured if it looks purty, I'll have more motivation to update it regularly.

And to end this rather random entry tonight, here's to more chill weekends!
