The 50s had Audrey Hepburn with her quintessential charm and LBD. Twiggy reigned in the 60s with her doe-like features. Farrah Fawcett was the official bombshell of the 70s, with every girl sporting her feathered hairstyle and adolescent males had her poster plastered on the bedroom walls.
Molly Ringwald will forever hold the title as the 80s teen queen.
Known as the ‘queen bee’ in the Brat Pack, she rose to fame in John Hughes’Sixteen Candles as Sam Baker, the unfortunate protagonist whose birthday is forgotten by her family. She continued to capture teen hearts everywhere with her roles in other John Hughes films such as Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink. While she may not be the most stunning, she does have an awkward appeal that many girls could relate to in their adolescent years.
I officially have this fascination with Molly Ringwald. There is something intriguing about her, and I have yet to find out exactly why.
As a 90s kid, sometimes I wonder whether I was born in the wrong decade but images of Little Lulu, Koosh balls and Tamaguchi, suddenly pop into my mind which makes me think twice.
When hell week is over, I will devote some time to post some entries on why 80s rule - unforgettable fashion staples (perms and big-ass hair ribbons, anyone?), John Hughes, coming-of-age movies, the Brat Pack and everything else in between.
